What is Design?
Design is the arrangement of elements to create. While there is definitely much overlap between art and design, I must qualify by also stating that I do not believe all art is intentionally created. The difference between design and art is that design is always intentional; it is methodically planned and executed with specific goals in mind. In fact, I’d argue the best art, the most timeless or striking, is created with design principles in mind: emphasis, scale, balance, rhythm, and unity to name a few.

When everything is in the right place, and the intended message and purpose comes across, then you have good design. The absence of good design is disorder and chaos; Messages become unclear, tone is inappropriate. Think of a funerary program designed using comic sans—utter chaos.
